Join the Hand Eye Society Board of Directors

Are you passionate about video games and supporting Toronto’s independent games community? Do you want to contribute your experience to a community-driven arts organization?

Hand Eye Society is seeking at least three (3) new volunteer members to join our Board of Directors, with terms beginning in September and October 2026. We want to hear from people interested in helping guide the organization’s future and strengthening its long-term sustainability.

Joining the Hand Eye Society Board is an opportunity to help shape the future of a long-running Toronto arts organization while making a meaningful contribution to the city’s independent games community. Board members can build their leadership and governance experience, connect with people across the nonprofit, arts, and games sectors, and collaborate with a team committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

About Hand Eye Society

For over 15 years, Hand Eye Society has supported and showcased video games in Toronto. We create opportunities for emerging and independent game developers and artists to share their work, build their skills, and connect with new audiences through workshops, mentorships, exhibitions, community events, and more.

Working with artists, volunteers, partners, and communities across the city, we aim to build a more accessible, inclusive, and connected video game community.

About the Role

As a volunteer board member, you will work collaboratively with fellow directors to guide Hand Eye Society’s strategic direction and support its long-term sustainability. Board members provide governance, financial oversight, and accountability to the organization’s mission and community. This may include reviewing budgets and financial statements and helping shape organizational policies. Alongside governance and oversight, board members may contribute directly to fundraising, planning, partnerships, and other organizational priorities.

Time Commitment and Expectations

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings (virtual)
  • Participate in committee work and special initiatives
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational oversight
  • Support fundraising and advocacy efforts
  • Act as an ambassador for Hand Eye Society in the community
  • Attend or support occasional Hand Eye Society events when possible
  • Serve a minimum two-year term

Board members can expect to contribute approximately 5 hours per month, including a 1-1.5 hour monthly board meeting, volunteering, and committee work. The time commitment may vary during major events, funding deadlines, or periods of organizational planning.
