Job Title: Torontron Technician
Location: On-site, Toronto
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Salary: $25/Hr
Contract Details: 4 weeks (flexible start mid-late September 2025)
Hours: Part-time, flexible, 20 hrs per week

Hand Eye Society (HES) is a non-profit arts organization that supports, develops, and accelerates the careers and community of game artists, creatives and enthusiasts. We support Canadian talent in the videogame and interactive game-based digital content. Our famous Torontrons (bespoke retro arcade cabinets) are in need of upgrading to prepare for our biggest event of the year–SuperFESTival. We need someone with hardware and software knowledge to get them operational on a tight timeline.
Technician Job Responsibilities:
- Quickly acquaint yourself with our technology
- Replacing Torontron computers with donated hardware
- Test, troubleshoot, reformat, install OS, etc. on donated hardware
- Report any technical issues/needs related to hardware fixes
- Reconstruct Torontrons once computers are functioning
- Load builds of games for the festival onto the Torontrons
- Help test the games
- Troubleshoot/report any issues with games operating on the Torontrons
- Document your set-up process for posterity
Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies
Assets for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Based in Toronto (preferred) or GTA
- Experience building PCs (personally or professionally)
- Strong knowledge of Windows OS and ability to debug
- Familiarity with games software/engines (preferred)
- Ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills and ability to describe technical problems in plain language
